Fort Worth Inc’s Entrepreneur of Excellence Award
The Fort Worth Inc. Entrepreneur of Excellence Awards, presented annually by Fort Worth Inc. magazine, are designed to honor the outstanding business leaders who are shaping the Greater Fort Worth community. The awards recognize entrepreneurs whose vision, creativity, and integrity have made a significant impact on the city’s economic landscape. Nominees are evaluated by an independent panel of judges on key criteria such as financial performance, business growth, ethical standards, perseverance, and community involvement. The program shines a spotlight on individuals who have not only built successful companies but have also contributed to Fort Worth’s reputation as a premier place to do business. Past winners represent a diverse range of industries and include notable local leaders such as Rusty Reid of Higginbotham and Michael Browning of Urban Air Trampoline Parks, among others who have distinguished themselves through their innovative leadership and dedication.
Thomas Nelson’s nomination for the Fort Worth Inc. Entrepreneur of Excellence Award is not simply a recognition of business success; it’s an affirmation of his embodiment of the very qualities the award celebrates. The judges look for more than just a thriving company—they seek leaders who demonstrate vision, perseverance, and a deep commitment to their community.
The Entrepreneurial Journey: Roots and Vision
Thomas Nelson’s journey to becoming a leader in private aviation is a testament to the power of a strong vision and a deep connection to the Fort Worth community. Originally from California, he found his direction at Texas Christian University (TCU). He wasn’t just a student; he was a member of the community, and he made Fort Worth his home. It was here, during his senior year, that an internship at a Dallas-based private jet company ignited a passion for the industry. He quickly recognized the potential to create a better, more personalized service, and he decided he wanted to do it on his own
Upon graduating from the TCU Bob Schieffer College of Communication, Thomas had the foundation he needed. As he puts it, his degree taught him “how to build meaningful relationships with people,” a skill that is “everything in the private aviation world.” In 2018, that vision took flight as he founded Trilogy Aviation. What began as a small, ambitious venture has since grown into a thriving enterprise, rooted in
the very city that gave him his start. His strategic focus on building trust and providing unparalleled
service has not only fueled the company’s growth but has also cemented his place as an innovative
leader in the aviation industry.
Quantifiable Growth: The Expansion Story
This past year has marked a pivotal moment for Trilogy Aviation, demonstrating the company’s remarkable and undeniable growth. Under Thomas Nelson’s leadership, the company has undergone a massive expansion, more than tripling its operational footprint from 4,000 square feet to an impressive 12,000 square feet. This isn’t just a number; it represents a significant investment in the future of the company and the Fort Worth community.
This substantial expansion was a direct response to the increasing demand for Trilogy Aviation’s services. It has allowed the team to take on more complex projects, accommodate a wider range of aircraft, and enhance their service capabilities. The new, state-of-the-art facility provides the space and infrastructure needed to continue delivering the exceptional quality and personalized service that has become their hallmark. This bold move underscores Thomas’s visionary strategy and his commitment to scaling the business to meet the evolving needs of the private aviation market, directly contributing to his status as a finalist for the Entrepreneur of Excellence Award.
